You Helped This Family Get Back on Their Feet and Move Forward  

We give thanks to every OBI’s Partner who faithfully supports our Hunger Relief program for families in need. Because of your support, one family in Tanah Merah has found new hope through a small family business that was once on the verge of dying. 

The synthetic leather belt-making business is a family legacy passed down through generations and preserved by Mr. Hendri. Since 2018, he and his wife, Mrs. Nina Nurhasanah, have worked hard to grow this business to support their daily needs and raise their only daughter, Khaira. 

But in 2022, they were hit with a heavy trial. Khaira was involved in an accident where a pair of scissors injured her eye. Since then, she has needed long-term medical treatment, and not all of the costs were covered by BPJS (public health insurance). The family’s savings were drained in the fight for Khaira’s recovery, forcing them to shut down completely. 

A new light began to shine when Khaira joined OBI’s Super5 Preschool in Tanah Merah in July 2024. During a parent meeting, Mrs. Nina was selected as a candidate to receive small business assistance. After an assessment process, in January 2025, they received a sewing machine, raw materials, and—most importantly—a renewed sense of hope. 

Five months after restarting their business, this family now earns Rp5–7 million per month and has hired two employees. Their handmade belts are sold at traditional markets and night events around Jakarta. The income is used to meet family needs, pay for Khaira’s medical checkups, support their employees, and save for their daughter’s future. 

“We’re grateful that through OBI’s Preschool and business program, our small business came back to life,” said Mr. Hendri. 

Although he holds a different faith, Mr. Hendri opens his heart to receive prayer. He believes that this business isn’t just for his family but can be a blessing to others as well.
