When God Answered Mrs. Filigawu’s Prayer Through You

When God Answered Mrs. Filigawu’s Prayer Through You

Because of your kindness, families who once struggled to eat are now beginning to feel a new sense of hope, just like Mrs. Filigawu Tafonao, a strong mother from Nias Island.

Behind a humble mung bean field in the village of Hilihoya lies an incredible story of perseverance. Mrs. Filigawu is a 58-year-old widow and mother of ten.

Three of her children are married and have moved away due to financial struggles. At home, she still cares for two grandchildren—one of whom has lived with a disability since the age of three. Of the remaining seven children, only three are still in school. One had to drop out because the family simply couldn’t afford it.

For years, Mrs. Filigawu worked as a rubber and cardamom farmer, but her income was never enough to meet the basic needs of her children and grandchildren.

Her life began to change when she received farming assistance from Obor Berkat Indonesia. Based on recommendations from the local community, she was given mung bean seeds, fertilizer, and hands-on support from OBI staff and agricultural officers.

At first, she was hesitant. But the encouragement and support from the OBI team helped her believe that God would make a way. Together with her children, she started working the land.

Three months later, her first harvest brought in 39 kilograms of mung beans. She sold part of it to meet her family’s daily needs.

After a few harvests, things began to look brighter. Mrs. Filigawu now sees a better future for her family.

“Thank you, OBI. Because of this support, we can rise again and have a better future,” she said.

Every gift you give is proof that God’s love is real and working, through you. Let’s keep working together to build new hope for families who need it most.
