Thank You, Eight Children in Amber Village Have Graduated from Preschool 

The parents of the children at Merpyoba Amber Preschool could not hide their gratitude as they celebrated their children’s graduation.

“Our daughter has learned many Indonesian words at school,” shared Onesimus Ayok, Elisabeth’s father.

Five-year-old Elisabeth, who lives in Amber Village, Mokwam District, Manokwari Regency, West Papua, was among eight children who graduated as the first class of Merpyoba Amber Preschool through its partnership with Super5.

Previously, Elisabeth’s parents were concerned because they were unable to teach her Indonesian effectively at home. However, through her learning experience at the preschool, Elisabeth has begun to know God from an early age and has learned simple Indonesian words such as “bapak,” “ibu,” “adik,” and the names of different fruits.

This change may sound simple, but for parents who long for their children to receive a proper education, the presence of Merpyoba Amber Preschool has brought new hope to the children of Amber Village.

For the past several years, young children in the village have had limited access to quality education. A community-run preschool had previously operated in the village, but learning activities were eventually suspended due to a lack of teaching materials and educational support.

Hope began to grow again through the dedication of Yullince, who now serves as the school principal. She took the initiative to rebuild early childhood education in the village. From that small step, Merpyoba Amber Preschool resumed its activities and is now under the care of GPKAI Ora et Labora Church.

Although the preschool does not yet have its own building and continues to use the village hall as a learning space, the children attend their classes with great enthusiasm. Merpyoba Amber Preschool currently serves 23 students with the support of five teachers.

This year marked a deeply meaningful milestone as eight children graduated as the preschool’s first graduating class.
