Planting Hope Through Early Childhood Teacher Education

Planting Hope Through Early Childhood Teacher Education

The quality of early childhood education is deeply shaped by the readiness and commitment of its teachers. Yet many PAUD teachers lack access to formal, linear education—not because they lack the desire to grow, but because of limited access and financial constraints.

Through the RPL S1 PG PAUD Program, CBN–OBI, in partnership with Super5 and Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW) in Salatiga, seeks to respond to this need in a sustainable way. The program is designed for teachers who already hold a bachelor’s degree in education (S.Pd) but whose academic background is not yet aligned with Early Childhood Education.

Through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mechanism, previously completed coursework can be credited, allowing teachers to complete their studies in a shorter time. Online classes also make it possible for teachers to continue serving children in their PAUD centers while pursuing higher education.

From nearly 100 applicants, only 16 teachers met the program’s criteria and received scholarships. Beyond academic qualifications, each recipient committed to serving in their PAUD community for five years, ensuring long-term impact beyond graduation.

Throughout the first semester, CBN and the Super5 team provided close mentoring in collaboration with the UKSW PGTK Study Program. Regular communication ensured that administrative processes, coursework, and academic assignments were well supported. By the end of the semester, participants demonstrated strong and encouraging academic performance.

Balancing teaching responsibilities, family life, and academic commitments was not easy. However, through the Super5 teacher community, participants encouraged one another, shared challenges, and walked through the process together.

One scholarship recipient, Mrs. Desyana Vransisca Daeli, a teacher at Tomorrow’s Hope Christian Kindergarten in Nias, shared her journey. From the beginning, she carried a strong desire to see her school grow and meet PAUD operational licensing requirements.

“Our school did not yet have a teacher with a PAUD degree, even though this is required for operational licensing,” she explained.

Through the RPL program, Mrs. Desyana gained practical knowledge that she immediately applied in her classroom—from developing more effective teaching methods to supporting children with special needs. Rather than striving for perfection, she focused on bringing meaningful progress to the children she serves.

The impact did not stop her. She shared what she learned with fellow teachers and actively invited parents to become more involved in their children’s learning. “I went through this process while serving as a teacher, wife, mother, and daughter caring for a sick parent. I am truly grateful to have completed my first semester,” she shared.

Thank you for walking with us—supporting faithful teachers and planting seeds that will shape children’s lives for years to come.

Looking ahead, Super5 hopes to open full S1 PG PAUD scholarships for teachers with a high school background. Today’s RPL participants are paving the way for that opportunity. With your continued support, more teachers can be equipped, and more children can receive quality education from the very beginning.
