Your Support Has Helped Farmers in Makalelon, South Sulawesi. They previously succeeded in growing chili and enjoyed a great harvest. However, unpredictable weather and less suitable land forced them to find an alternative source of income.
After considering different options, they decided to switch to patchouli plants, which are more profitable. They used savings from their chili harvest to buy patchouli seedlings.
Planting began in May 2024, and they have already harvested several times. The harvest depends on orders for patchouli seedlings. So far, they have sold over 20,000 seedlings for Rp 500 – Rp 600 each, earning Rp 8 million per person.

On November 14, they harvested another 10,000 seedlings, and in January 2025, 5,000 more seedlings will be ready for harvest. Besides selling seedlings, they also plan to process patchouli leaves into essential oil.

Every week, they cut, dry, and pack the dried plants into sacks for distillation. This patchouli business has helped many families, including Mr. Sontje, a 68-year-old father. He and his wife had been living with their child, but thanks to their hard work and OBI’s support, they are finally building their own home. The construction is now 80% complete and will soon be finished.
