Joy of the Community in Fatuoni Hamlet Kupang, as They Can Enjoy a Nearby Clean Water Source

You have answered a long-awaited need of the community in Fatuoni Hamlet, Ekateta Village, Kupang. Every donation you contribute has been directed towards the construction of a clean water well located near the GBI Lembah Pujian Fatuoni house of worship. 

The presence of this clean water well has fulfilled the community’s hope for closer access to a clean water source. Previously, the community in Fatuoni Hamlet had to struggle to get water from a source on the outskirts of the village, walking on foot. It was a common sight to see children walking to the water source, carrying jerry cans tied together. After filling them, they would carry the water back home with great effort. 

This is what 11-year-old Yusti does every day. At 5 am, she would wake up and walk to fetch water from the reservoir on foot, carrying it back for drinking and cooking needs. In the afternoon, she would make another trip, struggling with the heavy load on her shoulders. 

Not only that, Yusti and her family often suffered from diarrhea and skin rashes because the water they collected from open sources was prone to bacterial contamination. However, they had no other choice but to continue consuming the same water for years. 

Now, the water source is close! 

A successful collaboration with the local community has significantly contributed to the completion of this well. Since mid-September 2024, this well has been able to meet the needs of the surrounding community.  

Joy is evident on the face of every child, including Yusti, as they enjoy the freshness of the well water. Yusti and the other children in the community have seen their long-held wishes come true! Their daily burden of fetching water has been significantly lightened, and the quality of the water they consume is now much cleaner and safer.
