In communities where access to healthcare is limited, a single opportunity can change a child’s life. Jean experienced that transformation firsthand.
Since the age of two, Jean lived with a hernia that continued to grow and frequently caused pain when he played or ran. Over time, the condition limited his physical activities and affected his confidence, especially as he began facing teasing from other children.
Jean’s family longed for medical treatment that would allow him to live freely. However, in rural West Kalimantan, limited access to healthcare services and financial hardship made hernia surgery seem impossible. His parents’ income was only sufficient to meet daily needs for their extended family, forcing specialized medical care to be postponed year after year.
Through information shared by a local PAUD teacher and the accompaniment of Obor Berkat Indonesia, that opportunity finally came. In December 2025, Jean successfully underwent hernia surgery. The procedure went smoothly, and his recovery progressed well.
Today, Jean can once again run and play without pain. As he prepares to enter elementary school, he does so with renewed confidence and hope for the future.
Thank you for choosing to walk with us and support life-changing care for children like Jean.
