Every real action you take with us is a way God opens a path for children to experience His love, especially when you see the journey of Yuliana Dorlis, a 13-year-old girl from Jayapura who finally had the chance to receive an education.
At her age, Dorlis should be in middle school like her peers. But reality tells a different story. Since childhood, she had never attended formal school due to her family’s economic hardship.
Her mother was the sole breadwinner. With very limited resources, she could only afford to send Dorlis’s older sister to school, who is now preparing to enter university through a scholarship program. That decision meant Dorlis grew up without the ability to read, write, or do basic math until the age of 11.
When she first joined the School of Life Learning Center at GKKD Buper Waena, Dorlis had very low self-confidence. She almost gave up in the beginning.
“When she first joined SOL, it was difficult. She barely knew the alphabet and couldn’t read, write, or count. Every time we asked her a question, her voice was quite, she was afraid of being scolded if she made a mistake,” shared Kak Uly, a School of Life tutor.
But over time, everything changed. Thanks to the support and patience of her tutors, Dorlis slowly gained confidence. In four years, she learned how to read, write, and do arithmetic. Today, she has graduated from the Primary Level Equivalent Education and has continued on to Junior High Level Equivalent Education. She hopes that one day, she will earn a diploma that can open doors to a better future.
Dorlis’s journey is proof that the School of Life Learning Center is not only a place where children grow in godly character, but also a space where children from underprivileged backgrounds can access quality education.
Thank you for being part of this meaningful mission. Your prayers and support continue to open paths toward a brighter future for children like Dorlis. Support discipleship and learning for children through School of Life and witness how God works through your kindness.
