Duck Egg Harvest Brings Hope to Mr. Herwin and His Family

Duck Egg Harvest Brings Hope to Mr. Herwin and His Family

July 2024 is a time of waiting for 10 families in Gasaribu Village, Samosir, North Sumatra, to have their ducks productively laying eggs and providing economic benefits.

Thanks to your support, this long wait has finally paid off. Since mid-July, several beneficiary families have rejoiced as their ducks began laying eggs productively. This success has been directly experienced by Mr. Herwin, one of the beneficiaries. He works daily as a farmer and occasionally as a repairman for agricultural tools. However, the income from these jobs is not enough to support his wife and four children.

With his experience in duck farming, Mr. Herwin has diligently cared for the 100 ducks provided by OBI for the past six months. He ensures that they receive enough feed, such as yams and snails, and keeps the coop clean to maintain their health. He hoped that the ducks would lay eggs to their maximum potential.

By the end of August, Mr. Herwin had successfully harvested around 70 eggs per day. These eggs are sold for IDR 2,500 each to neighbors and are also promoted online via WhatsApp and Facebook. Thankfully, the eggs sell out quickly, and he now has regular customers who order consistently.

The income from selling these eggs is gradually covering household expenses. The hope is that these eggs will further improve the family’s welfare and support the purchase of 100 more ducks in the future.

“Through this duck farming assistance, we have learned to reap the benefits we are receiving now. Praise God, these eggs are helping us meet our family needs,” said Mrs. Martha, Mr. Herwin’s wife.
