Towards the end of the year, Indonesia often faces the challenge of hydrometeorological disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, storms, and extreme rainfall. Recognizing this, Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI), through its Disaster Relief program, is stepping in to equip communities to face these challenges.
On December 13 and 19, 2024, OBI conducted two live streaming sessions titled “Disaster Preparedness Webinar” to address potential hydrometeorological disasters. These sessions included education and awareness on early warnings for extreme weather in various regions across Indonesia.
Led by OBI’s Head of Disaster Relief Program, Adelina Simatupang, the live-streamed Instagram webinars featured interactive discussions with participants. These sessions not only provided essential information on how to access early weather warnings but also equipped participants with preparedness steps to face disasters such as floods, landslides, and storms that are common toward the end of the year.
Here are some testimonials from participants of the Disaster Preparedness Webinar:
“As a participant, I feel very fortunate to join this event, which provided crucial insights into extreme weather. The material presented was both informative and relevant, especially as we increasingly face challenges like heavy rain, floods, or strong winds.”

“I’m deeply grateful to have participated in the Instagram Live Monitor the Weather, Enjoy the Holidays event yesterday. As a resident of NTT, I found the information shared highly relevant to the challenges we face. The rainy season always presents unique challenges, especially during travel. With this information, we are better prepared to face extreme weather and the threat of cold lava floods.”
