Assistance for Mrs. Melly: Hope Beyond Limitations
How is it possible that selling a cup of instant coffee supports an entire family’s livelihood? For Mrs. Melly, your assistance has turned limitations into new hope for her family.
Ms Melly (aged 47) carries the responsibility of being the breadwinner for her family, especially since her husband is unemployed. She has to work hard to support and send her four daughters to school, who are currently in primary, middle, high school and university.
She supports her family by running a small coffee shop that she opened at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Cendana University, Kupang, in 2016. In this small shop, she sells instant coffee, soft drinks, and simple snacks.
The profits from the shop are only enough to cover daily food expenses, utility bills and her children’s education costs, including transport and school supplies. However, her financial situation becomes very difficult during the university holidays when the coffee shop has to close. Although she has tried to expand her market opportunities through online platforms, the instant coffee she sells has not attracted much interest.
She would like to improve the quality of the coffee she sells. But limited capital is still a major obstacle.
Hope Beyond Limitations
Your kindness has transformed Mrs Melly’s limited capital into new hope. On 31 August 2024, she received capital assistance from OBI to develop her coffee shop business, in the form of a digital coffee grinder, cup sealing machine, coffee equipment, banners, cups and as well as renovation of the shop.
Mrs. Melly can now offer high quality coffee, which is well received in the marketplace, thanks to these new facilities. She has also expanded her in-store snack and cake menu. She has also ventured into online sales, using the business skills she has gained from OBI’s training program.
You have truly transformed her family’s life! Now, the income from her coffee shop has improved significantly. She no longer worries about campus holidays because she can continue to sell online.
Mrs Melly expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity has given by OBI to increase my income through the capital assistance.” She hopes that this support will help to meet her family’s needs and provide higher education for her four daughters. “I am very grateful for this blessing. May God always be with us.”
