Achieving a Junior High School Diploma at the Age of 52, The Beginning of a Better Life! 

The atmosphere at the Community Learning Center (PKBM) OBI Tanah Merah, North Jakarta, was filled with both emotional and joyous moments on Friday, November 29, 2024. A total of 51 students, who had been pursuing education for packages A, B and C, finally graduated and received diplomas equivalent to elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels. 

The faces of every graduate beamed with happiness. This graduation was not just an achievement; it marked the beginning of a new chapter in their journey to achieve even greater dreams. Some will continue their education at higher levels, while others plan to use their diplomas to secure better jobs. 

One of the graduates was Mr. Wasmu (52 years old), who completed his junior high school education through package B. He had previously dropped out of school after finishing elementary. With only an elementary school diploma, he worked various jobs, starting as an office boy and later doing odd jobs. After his wife left, he had to support his only child alone. With an uncertain income, he struggled to meet daily needs, pay rent, and cover monthly expenses. 

He had always hoped to change his life for the better. With strong determination, Mr. Wasmu enrolled at PKBM OBI to continue his education. Eventually, he earned his junior high school diploma, which he hopes will open doors to better employment opportunities. 

“I’m so happy, praise God, to get my junior high school diploma. This is a valuable opportunity for me to finally get my diploma. I hope to find a job that matches this qualification,” said Mr. Wasmu. 

Not only being grateful for his diploma, but Mr. Wasmu also expressed his gratitude to PKBM OBI for providing free education for his child. Despite financial limitations, his child was able to attend school like other children. 

“I would like to thank OBI very much for helping me without charge. I hope OBI continues to grow and succeed,” he added.
