A Glimmer of Hope to Improve the Living Standards of the Chili Farmers in Barung Kersap 

Thanks to your support, you have turned the hopes of many families in Indonesia into reality. In the midst of the limitations they face, your faithful support has opened doors of opportunity for them to improve their quality of life. This is exactly what the farming community in Barung Kersap, North Sumatra, has experienced. 

Four farming families who received business capital assistance for growing chili peppers from you were finally able to reap the fruits of their labor in November 2024. They were given this opportunity despite the difficult economic challenges they face daily. 

They received this help in May 2024, in the form of chili pepper seeds and farming supplies. With their daily work as orange and food crop farmers, they already had some knowledge of agriculture. However, their harvests were not enough to meet their daily needs, which led them to supplement their income by working as laborers with earnings of less than IDR 100,000 per day. 

This income was barely enough to cover their daily expenses, including food, baby supplies, and school needs. As a result, these farming families had to rely on the debt. 

Impact of Chili Farming Assistance for Mr. Redo’s Family 

Mr. Redo and his wife are farmers who have been cultivating their land by growing various food crops. However, the harvest from their crops still wasn’t enough to meet their family’s needs, so they had to borrow money to cover the shortfall. 

But thanks to your generosity, this family’s burden has been lightened. The business capital assistance for growing chili peppers allowed Mr. Redo to maximize their land’s potential with intercropping techniques. 

In June 2024, they planted 1,000 chili pepper seedlings. Despite facing challenges with pests and the rainy season, their chili crop produced a good harvest by the end of October. 

Mr. Redo and his wife expressed their gratitude: “Thank you so much for your prayers. We are grateful that the chili peppers are now ready to be harvested, and the results are good.”
