You Have Helped Budi Improve His Fried Rice Business
Limited capital is often a major obstacle for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to grow. To address this need, Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI) has launched an MSME capital assistance program aimed at supporting the most vulnerable families in Indonesia. One of the beneficiaries is Mr. Budi Kristianto’s family from Pati, Central Java.
Mr. Budi has been selling fried rice by the roadside for nearly 8 years. This business is the economic backbone of his family, crucial for meeting daily needs and covering his child’s education expenses, while his wife works as a school employee with a limited salary. They live a simple life.
However, as time went by, Mr. Budi’s fried rice cart became shabby and his equipment became inadequate. He had only one stove used for cooking at home and selling at night. Customers had to sit on a damp mat during rain, which disrupted their dining comfort. This situation hindered the growth of Mr. Budi’s business.
One day, Mr. Budi found out about OBI’s MSME assistance program and with great hope, he applied. Thanks to your support, OBI provided help in paint, plywood, chairs, a stove, and other supplies in April 2024. This aid enabled Mr. Budi to repair his damaged cart, speed up food preparation, and enhance customer comfort with new chairs.
Now, Mr. Budi’s fried rice business operates daily with stable sales, reaching around 40 servings per day. He is also working to increase sales by creating new menu variations, such as fried rice with chicken, egg, gizzards, sausages, and meatballs, which have become popular at his stall. “To boost sales, I create various toppings not found elsewhere,” he says. Mr. Budi works tirelessly, preparing his goods from the morning, starting to sell in the afternoon, and often returning home at dawn to support his family.
