Garden in School: Helping NTT Kids Eat Healthier Every Day!

In the eastern part of Indonesia, specifically in NTT, many kids are still facing big challenges in meeting their nutritional needs. This situation drives Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI) to keep moving and make a real change for the kids through the Garden in School program.

Right now, Garden in School has started running in six preschool in Kupang, including PAUD Glorya Efrata Karisin. The program aims for every child to enjoy an egg and a bowl of vegetables every day. Not only are nutritious meals provided, but kids are also taught farming and animal husbandry skills through deep learning methods.

As an initial step, we’ve provided 20 laying hens that are 4 months old, which will start laying eggs in the next one to two months. Additionally, we are also giving vegetable seedlings, materials for building the coop, scales, and other needs like plant care tools and chicken feed for the first month.

One of the latest achievements we can share is the construction of a chicken coop at PAUD Glorya Efrata Karisin. The kids have also successfully harvested mustard greens from the garden they took care of themselves. This way, they not only learn about healthy eating but also shape their character through practicing responsibility, cooperation, and caring for the environment.

This program also involves parents in nutrition education so that healthy eating habits can be applied in daily life. We hope Super 5 Preschool in NTT can become more independent in providing protein and vegetables for the kids in the future.

We need your support to get this program running in other areas of NTT and make sure there’s quality chicken feed available, so the eggs produced are more nutritious for the kids. You can donate here!
