The past few months have not been easy for thousands of families in North Sumatra and Aceh. Yet during these challenges, your support has helped many families feel that they are not alone.
Through the Sumatra Disaster Response Phase 1, OBI has reached 28,565 people affected by the disaster.
Today, several areas are entering the recovery phase, and children have started to return to learning—even though many are still studying in emergency tents.
However, they still need safe and proper learning spaces, rather than continuing to study in hot tents with limited facilities. At the same time, many schools in the affected areas are still unable to operate.
Seeing this situation, OBI invites you to take action again. We are currently building Temporary Schools in three locations:
Construction at SDN Alur Jambu began in February 2026 as the first step to help children return to a more proper learning environment.
Recovery is not only about rebuilding classrooms. Children also need the right support to help them learn again with peace of mind.
That is why teachers receive training in Education in Emergency (EiE) methods as well as basic Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) skills. With this training, teachers are better equipped to guide children through both learning and emotional recovery after the disaster.
The entire process is carried out together with the local Education Department, school committees, and community members, including involving children in every stage of the process. The goal is to ensure that every step truly reflects the needs on the ground.
In addition to building temporary schools, OBI is also supporting the construction of a Sunday School building in Aceh Tamiang, so children can have a safe place to grow in faith and learn about God’s love.
Thank you for continuing to be part of this journey. Your support helps recovery move faster and reach those who need it most.
