Thank you so much, OBI Partners. Your love and sincerity have brought new hope to children affected by natural disasters in North Sumatra and Aceh Tamiang.
The flash floods that took the lives of their parents almost also took away the children’s right to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. From December to early March, learning activities were temporarily stopped. After that, they had to study in emergency tents that were hot and stuffy, making it difficult for them to concentrate. Meanwhile, the construction of permanent schools is estimated to take up to 18 months.
Not only schools were affected. The only Sunday School room in Aceh Tamiang was also damaged by the flash flood. Yet from the very beginning of the disaster response, you have walked alongside us. Because of this, two temporary schools and one Sunday School room were completed and inaugurated in mid-April 2026.
Together with the local government, Mr. Sandi Baratha, Chairman of Obor Berkat Indonesia Foundation, inaugurated the temporary schools and Sunday School room.
One of the temporary schools was built for the children of SD Negeri Alur Jambu in Aceh Tamiang Regency. This school serves 117 students with 14 teachers and six learning groups. Similar support was also provided for SD Negeri Pagaran Honas in Central Tapanuli Regency, which serves 103 students from six learning groups. In addition, one HKBP church in Aceh Tamiang, which is commonly used by children for Sunday School, has also been supported so it can once again become a safe space for them to learn God’s Word.
We are grateful that the children’s education is beginning to recover. This journey does not stop here. Together with the support of OBI Partners, we will continue to be present for children affected by disasters in North Sumatra and Aceh Tamiang, so they can return to learning, growing, and holding on to hope for their future.
