Your Compassion, Mrs. Yane’s Barn Is Full

“Thank you to OBI donors. The support I received means so much,” said Yane, a 35-year-old single mother from Naibonat, East Nusa Tenggara.

Yane has raised her two children alone since her husband passed away from tongue cancer in early 2024. He used to drive a pick-up truck transporting villagers from Naibonat to Kupang. Though modest, his income covered their daily needs.

After his illness and passing, life changed drastically. To survive, Yane began selling vegetables, buying them from the market and reselling them from home. But profits were tiny—sometimes just Rp100,000 to Rp800,000 a month. Many days, her vegetables didn’t sell and had to be thrown away.

Often, there was no rice at home, so the family survived on porridge or even boiled animal feed corn.

Yane dreamed of farming rice but lacked land, knowledge, and capital. Living on inherited land, she had no means to start.

Seeing her struggle, the Ekklesia Airkom community—where her children joined the School of Life program—and OBI stepped in. They provided seeds, farming tools, and mentorship. The community also lent her land for free.

With renewed strength, Yane began to learn farming, supported by the community and OBI’s local team through prayer and guidance.

Her efforts bore fruit. During her first harvest, Yane produced 78 sacks of rice. Some she sold, and the rest she saved for a year’s supply. Now, her home never runs out of rice.

Her eldest son, Yohan (12), is proud of his mother’s hard work. “We no longer fear hunger,” he says.

Thank you, OBI partners, for being part of transforming Yane’s life.
