“When writing lessons, he prefers to play. There are times when he cries if we scold him, and he might even throw a tantrum…” said Ms. Adiel, Gefariel’s class teacher.
Ardfon Gefariel Bana, known as Gefariel, is a six-year-old in preschool. He’s always been super active, preferring to run around rather than sit still in class. He often interrupted his teachers to finish their stories before they could!
His hyperactivity affected his learning. When he first joined Batu Karang Nonohonis Kindergarten, he struggled with reading and recognizing numbers.
“Being the only boy in the family, he was spoiled by his relatives,” his parents explained. This made it hard for him to understand respectful behavior, especially towards adults in the classroom.
But with time and guidance from his teachers, things started to change. “We often teach them that listening to their teachers is also about respecting God. Plus, the Super5 curriculum helps a lot—especially the story of King Beebot, which teaches obedience,” Ms. Adiel added.
Now, Gefariel can sit calmly, listen attentively, and wait his turn to speak. Despite his playful nature, he’s actually a smart kid! His academic progress has been amazing—he can now recognize numbers 1-20, letters A-Z, and even form simple words like “ma-ta” and “da-ri.”
He’s become super excited about learning, loves writing, and even asks for extra homework! When asked about his dream job, he confidently said, “I want to be a police officer so I can catch bad guys!”
