Your Compassion Helps Darit West Kalimantan Recover from Flooding!

Heavy rains on 22-25 January 2025 caused major flooding at several points in the Darit area of Landak Regency, West Kalimantan.

The water level reached 4 metres, submerging houses, schools, offices and markets, so that community activities were completely paralysed for almost a week. This condition has affected thousands of people, causing them to be isolated in the middle of the water and having difficulty fulfilling their daily needs.

Through your generous support, the OBI team and volunteers have distributed disaster response assistance in Darit from 30 January to 1 February 2025. A total of 265 families from five isolated communities have received assistance, including:

  • GPDI PC Ngabang Community
  • GKPKB Bahtera Ngabang Community
  • GPPIK Songga Community
  • GBI Darit Community and
  • GPPIK Ansang Community

The high level of flooding forced the OBI team and volunteers to use wooden boats to distribute aid. The first aid packages distributed were staples in the form of 5 kg of rice, 2 litres of cooking oil, 1 kg of sardines and 1 board of eggs (30 eggs), hygiene kits and school supplies for children.

The following is coverage of the distribution of disaster response assistance in Darit:

OBI’s Continued Support

In addition to emergency response assistance, OBI also provides further support in the form of the provision of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour Training (PHBS) for post-disaster disease prevention and involves the local government in the provision of flood disaster preparedness projects for flood-prone areas.

Thank you, OBI Partners, your every helping hand means a lot to the children and families affected by the disaster. Let’s continue to join hands, help and see thousands of lives restored.
