You have helped underprivileged families in Indonesia improve their living standards together with Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI). Through the MSME business capital assistance project, OBI empowers selected families to develop various businesses, including handicrafts, laundry services, and food and beverage stalls.
As of September 2024, the businesses we support have shown progress and have benefited their families. One of them is the capital assistance for Mrs. Junariah’s fried rice stall in Tanah Merah, North Jakarta.
Mrs. Junariah (40 years old), a mother of four children, sells coconut rice in front of her house every day. Her husband works as a garbage collector. But their income is far from enough to fulfill their daily needs and their children’s school fees.

Longing to Increase Income
Since 2020, Mrs. Junariah had been thinking about increasing her family’s income by selling fried rice. However, financial limitations prevented her from realizing this plan. Five years passed, yet her longing remained strong in her heart.
In 2024, a tutor from OBI’s School of Life in Tanah Merah, where her two children were actively involved, introduced an opportunity for MSME’s capital assistance. At that moment, Mrs. Junariah was very happy, feeling that God had finally answered her prayers. Finally, the fried rice stall assistance is given with the new items such as cart, stove, plate, spoon, frying pan, packing tools, chair, folding table, rice, egg, chicken, cooking oil, shrimp crisp and banner.
She shared, “The help from OBI is the answer of prayers of me and my husband, which we have been lifting up for a long time.”
Learning to Make Popular Fried Rice
Although she initially lacked the skills to cook delicious fried rice, Mrs. Junariah was eager to learn. The fried rice-making training provided by OBI greatly helped her to create a high-quality dish.

The knowledge she gained became the basis for her to start her fried rice business in early June 2024. But unexpectedly, her fried rice quickly became popular within the first week. Over time, her income continued to increase, despite the competition from other fried rice in the area. The ongoing support and regular training from OBI helped Mrs. Junariah innovate and expand her sales through online platforms.
Now, Mrs. Junariah can feel a significant change through her income. Previously, they struggled to meet daily needs, but now, she can save part of her earnings to grow her fried rice stall and save her children’s education.
