Officially Open! OBI Fodo Nias’ New School Building Ready to Shape the Future’s Golden Generation

On a sunny Thursday morning, September 19, 2024, hundreds people gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the new OBI Fodo Nias School building. We are glad to share this historic moment with our faithful Partners.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by Nely Hergendi, Chairman of Obor Berkat Indonesia Foundation, Mark McClendon, Chairman of Cahaya Bagi Negeri Indonesia Foundation, Nataliya Khomyak, Director of Orphan Promise Operations, Southeast Asia Regional Manager of Orphan Promise, Purwati, and the Head of the OBI Nias Ministry Center, Febly Walewangko. The event was attended by government officials, including the Head of the Nias Education Department, the Head of the Christian Religious Affairs Division, Christian religious leaders, the Commander of the Nias Military District (Kodim), and the students’ parents.

In her speech, Nely Hergendi, Chairman of Obor Berkat Indonesia Foundation, expressed her hope that this building will become a place to shape each child into a golden generation for Nias and Indonesia. “This building is merely a facility. I personally hope that the teachers will remain committed to discipling the children so they can become a golden generation for Nias and for Indonesia,” she said.

The long journey of OBI Fodo Nias School stands as a testament to how you have provided quality and affordable education to every child in remote, frontier, and outermost areas. Established in 2013, the school initially only accommodated kindergarten students with limited facilities. By 2017, the growing demand prompted OBI to open an elementary school, which at that time utilized OBI’s office space as classrooms. Over time, as the number of students grew, the desire for a proper school building remained strong.

Thanks to your support, the construction of the OBI Fodo school building began in July 2023. Within a year, the building was completed and has been used as a learning facility since the new academic year began in July 2024.

Along with adequate facilities and a safe, welcoming environment, the quality education has attracted parents to enroll their children. Every child, from kindergarten, elementary, and computer courses, is not only educated to be smart but also to have strong character.
