Your Kindness Brings Hope to a Farming Family in Kupang
For years, people in the Karisin community, in Amabi Oefeto District, Kupang, have relied on farming to make a living. They manage inherited land around their homes to grow crops such as corn, vegetables, and various spices, which can be sold or consumed on a daily basis. The harvested crops are either sold for income or used as a barter tool to obtain rice, meat, eggs, or other food items.
However, farmers often face the challenge of crop failure due to limited capital to manage their land optimally, especially during extended dry seasons. The only available water source is a well behind their homes, which they must draw manually. This challenge has yet to find a solution, and when crops fail, it becomes difficult for the farmers to meet their families’ basic needs.
Your kindness have brought new hope to the farming community in Karisin. Four farming families in this community received capital assistance for cultivating chili on September 20, 2024. Through Obor Berkat Indonesia, they have been provided with seeds, fertilizers, and a much-needed well water pump to support the irrigation of their farmland.
One of the families you’ve helped is that of Mrs. Yusri and Mr. Yusak. They have three children to provide for. As a housewife, Mrs. Yusri depends entirely on her husband’s income, who works as a church caretaker. However, his income is very limited, so Mr. Yusak often has to supplement it by working as a freelance motorbike taxi driver and occasionally as a laborer on other people’s farms.
Despite having unused land around their home, this family could only grow vegetables for their daily needs. Limited capital has been their main challenge, especially considering the water crisis they’ve endured, making it difficult to achieve an optimal harvest.
But the business assistance they received through you has given them new hope to improve their living conditions. Now, their unused land will soon be planted with 2,000 chili seedlings. The functioning water pump will help irrigate the crops effectively, even during the long dry season.
There is no greater feeling for Mrs. Yusri than to be thankful to God for sending the assistance they had been waiting for. She hopes that the chili harvest will meet her family’s needs so that Mr. Yusak will no longer have to work odd jobs as a motorbike taxi driver and farm laborer.
