From Despair to Hope: Duck Farming Assistance for Families in Gasaribu 

The generosity of OBI partners has become a beacon of hope for many people in need. Together with you, OBI continues to elevate the living standards of families in need through sustainable economic empowerment. 

Earlier this year, OBI and its partners brought a glimmer of hope to 10 families in Gasaribu Village, Toba, North Sumatra. Through the duck farming program, these families, most of whom work as farm laborers with unstable incomes, now have a new opportunity to improve their livelihoods. 

One of the beneficiaries that received support is Mr. Olwin’s family. Despite being confined to a wheelchair due to physical limitations, Mr. Olwin never gave up on providing for his wife and four children. He worked hard as a motor rickshaw driver while his wife contributed to the family income by working as a farm laborer. 

But a helping hand from you has given Mr. Olwin’s family hope for a better life. He received 100 ducks to care for. Since then, Mr. Olwin has been diligently tending to his ducks every day. He works even harder to save money for additional duck feed.

Today, the ducks continue to grow strong and healthy. However, Mr. Olwin and other beneficiaries are still striving for the ducks to start laying eggs. They are actively seeking alternative feed sources to encourage the ducks to lay eggs soon.
