Being able to smile cheerfully like other children is the hope of these 10 Nias Islands children. They were born with cleft lips. Their smiles are not perfect because they are blocked by a gap in their lips, which makes it difficult for them to eat and speak. Their parents have tried everything, but their money has not been sufficient to pay for the surgery.  

Thanks to your kindness, Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI) Foundation is here to answer the needs of these 10 children by providing free cleft lip surgery. The surgery was successfully carried out simultaneously on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Dr. M. Thomsen Regional Hospital, Nias Island. Through this surgery, their lives can change for the better. 

Here are the words of the families of the OBI cleft lip surgery beneficiaries. 

Fitri Santi, mother of Jovanka Darel (9 months old) 

“I was happy when I heard about the cleft lip surgery aid. This is our only wish as parents. Because when I take Jovanka to places, she is sometimes mocked, and that makes me sad. But thank God, this program is here to help my only child, Jovanka.” 

Weriani, mother of Aswin (3 months old) 

“We have been trying to save money for our child’s surgery even though our income is not enough. But we are happy and grateful because we found a way to have our child’s cleft lip surgery for free. I am grateful to OBI and the donors who have helped us to operate on our child Aswin for free, there is no repay from us, may God Almighty repay us.”
